Lucius Banda's music career

Lucius Banda, who is popularly known as Soldier Lucius Banda, has been in the music industry since he was 13 years old when he used to sing with his brother and his band. 

After studying music at the Dorkey house in Johannesburg, Lucius officially kickstarted his solo music career with his debut album 'Son of a Poor Man,' which was an instant success.

His themes of political oppression resonated well with a lot of Malawians, although the government felt differently about his music, and some of his songs were either censored or banned. That, however, did not make Lucius slow down.

In 1997, he formed his own band called Zembani Music Band with an aim to help grow and nurture local talent. Zembani is one of the best bands in Africa that has helped nurture the talents of several musicians in Malawi, including Billy Kaunda and Wendy Harawa.

Lucius Banda's net worth has been amassed through the sales of his 19 albums, live performances and concerts throughout the world, his Zembani band, and his numerous awards.

Lucius Banda is a seasoned politician who has served as a member of parliament for Balaka North district twice.

His first term in parliament lasted until 2006, when he was arrested and charged with using fake academic credentials. He was sentenced to 27 months in prison with hard labour but was released much earlier for good conduct.

In 2014, he ran again for the same post and won by a huge margin.

As a member of parliament, Lucius Banda was able to earn a good salary of about K862 4000 per month together with allowances. This enabled him to increase his wealth and build his net worth.

Following his prolonged absence from social media and the public, some rumours were spread that Lucius Banda had passed on. The story has since been dismissed as fake news. Lucius Banda is still alive but recovering from a long illness.

He has been serving as a special advisor for youth and arts affairs since 2020, after President Chakwera appointed him.

Besides his role as an advisor, Lucius Banda seems to be invested in his home farm, and he has been seen several times taking care of his vegetable garden.

As a musician, Soldier Lucius Banda has been away from the music scenes for some time. In 2019, he announced that he would launch his 20th album titled 'Love and Hate' on his 50th birthday, which would coincide with his 25th wedding anniversary in 2020.
